For many years Arran Pilot was Britainʼs favourite first early potato. For the last few years there has been no certified stock available to home gardeners, however stock has now been built back up by dedicated farmers and we are delighted to be able to offer this top-class variety once again and have it firmly back in the D.T.Brown 2023 range where it belongs.
Britain’s favourite first early for 30 years, it is still a very good all-rounder. The oval tubers of medium size have shallow eyes, white skin and creamy white flesh. Plants show good drought-tolerance and scab-resistance.
Potatoes are one of the most rewarding vegetables to grow. There’s the nurturing process of chitting, planting and earthing-up, the anticipation of a good harvest as you dig through the soil and, of course, the unbeatable taste of fresh, home-grown, potatoes.
All potatoes (except for maincrops) will benefit from ‘chitting’ prior to planting out. The chitting process encourages the seed to sprout, which then when planted, helps them to establish more readily, leading to bigger crops. Simply place them, blunt end up, in an old egg box until the shoots are approximately 1½ to 2½cm (½ to 1in).
Potatoes are delivered in 1.5kg bags, each pack containing approx. 15-20 tubers.

For orders containing a mix of seed and non-seed items a combined postage charge (£6.90 - £1.95 to cover the seed items and £4.95 to cover the cost of non-seed items) will apply. This is due to the vast majority of live products, hardware and seed items being sent out from separate warehouses and the costs involved.
