Garlic Czechmate Bulbs (Hardneck) is a D.T. Brown exclusive exotic hardneck garlic, supplied as 2 bulbs, bred and trialled for exceptional performance and bold flavour.
Originating from Moravia in the Czech Republic and developed with the expert team at The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, this autumn planting variety is best planted from September through to January. It develops an attractive glazed purple skin, revealing a beautifully striped bulb packed with large, plump purple cloves arranged tightly around a central hardneck stem.
Known for its hot, spicy character, it delivers a noticeably stronger flavour than many UK garlic varieties, making it ideal for rich, full-flavoured cooking. It is particularly well suited to Asian and Mediterranean dishes where a deeper heat is desired. A vigorous grower with intermediate rust resistance, it performs reliably in UK gardens when planted in autumn.
Each bulb is carefully sourced and trialled to ensure consistent quality, with all stock certified disease and virus free for complete peace of mind. Harvest is typically expected in June and July.
Hardneck Garlic Generally more hardy than softneck varieties (they are the best choice for northern gardeners) and tend to be a bit larger but with fewer cloves per bulb. They produce scapes in early summer – a strong, single flower stalk that should be removed and used in a range of culinary dishes.
