Garlic Rhapsody Wight Bulbs (Softneck) are supplied as 2 bulbs and are a striking early purple garlic variety known for both their appearance and exceptional flavour.
This superb softneck garlic develops into bright, large bulbs that naturally lift themselves up out of the soil as they swell, revealing attractive deep purple streaks and mottling. Originally derived from the historic ‘Violet de Cadours’ from south-west France, it has been carefully re-selected and developed to perform reliably in UK growing conditions.
It produces a fresh, zingy flavour that works beautifully across a wide range of recipes and can also be harvested early as a green garlic. It is recognised as the earliest of all purple garlics, with harvest possible from June when planted at the ideal time in October or November.
Each year, bulbs are sourced in partnership with The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, ensuring consistent quality from expert growers. Suitable for beds or containers, this variety is easy to grow and well adapted to UK gardens.
All bulbs are certified disease and virus free, offering reassurance and dependable performance from planting through to harvest.
Garlic Types
Hardneck types have a distinctive flavour and produce coiled flower stalks known as ‘scapes’ or ‘racamboles’. These are best removed to increase bulb size and are excellent chopped into salads and stir-fries.
Softneck garlics are the most commonly grown. They do not produce a flower stalk and are valued for their excellent storage qualities, traditionally being plaited once harvested.
